Creativity, Healing, & the Inner Journey: Kristin Alana Smith
This video is about artist Kristin's healing journey, created by Kristin Alana Smith, James Greiner (director/editor/videographer) and Jacqui Beck (producer/director/videographer).
The film was made to explore deeper aspects of the healing process, including how creative expression and connection to the natural world can complement medical treatment. Kristin also reflects upon how important a good relationship with her medical support team is in providing great care and respect during medical treatments.
While navigating her healing journey Kristin has a unique personal viewpoint on receiving care within the medical system. She recognizes that work still needs to be done to provide equitable care for underrepresented populations. She addresses her opinions on racial disparities within clinical trials with the hope of opening up conversations between medical professionals and the communities they serve.

Instructional Videos
Pareidolia
This video highlights a technique that Jacqui often uses as part of her painting process: pareidolia.
Pareidolia means “seeing something familiar in a random image,” and is a great way to bring out your creativity and personal style while painting.
Jacqui had been doing this for years when a friend of hers, Ruth Armitage, shared an article about her own work that focused on the concept of pareidolia. It was wonderful for Jacqui to discover a word that described this interesting and important part of her painting process. In this video you’ll get a chance to see how Jacqui starts her paintings and then brings out the emerging forms as the painting develops.
A big thanks to Jacqui’s son, James Greiner, who filmed and edited the video and for all his support along the way. Music by TrackTribe.
Applying, Altering & Removing Paint
Jacqui demonstrates a variety of ways to alter both wet and dry paint at all stages of the painting process. Try these techniques, make them your own, and get messy!
