In her artwork, Jacqui explores her fascination with the concept of palimpsest, a process used during ancient times to wash off a page of writing to re-use it. Sometimes the original writing was not completely removed and a ghost of what had been written remained. As she paints, Jacqui uses multiple layers of paint and other mediums to create a sense of depth and complexity. She sees this as a metaphor of the human experience. We are all multi-layered beings, deep and wonderfully complex. Hints of what is underneath frequently show through.
